Music for Large Events:

 

2025 Splash Festival:

  "Inner Harbour Overture" for Victoria Symphony Orchestra, with the Coho Ferry, the Johnson Street Bridge, and the BC Royal                              Museum Carilloneur, and over ten other present day and historic recorded harbour sounds. Audience of over 40 000 in the Inner Harbour,   Victoria, BC.


2010 Vancouver/Whistler Winter Olympics:

  Various works for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics: Fanfare, classical/pop song, fiddle music, and choral pieces for the torch relay                        celebrations, film music for the 2010 Aboriginal Pavilion, arrangements for Kinnie Starr and the Borealis String Quartet, performing on            piano with the Vancouver Symphony and the Black Arm Band from Australia, a choral commission from VANOC for live performance at        various venues , and improvised ensemble music behind an evening of writers and poets including Shane Koyczan.

The BC Song

  Performed by many choirs across British Columbia in February 2005, all on the same day in support of the 2010 Olympic bid.

The XV Commonwealth Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies

  "The Athlete's Parade" used for opening ceremonies, medal ceremonies, and closing ceremonies. Accompanied the athletes marching in     the opening ceremony past Queen Elizabeth II.

​

The BC Summer Games

  Commissioned for the staged opening ceremonies, 1992. A fifteen-minute work complete with logging trucks and          water bombers in Port Alberni, BC.

​

2010 Olympics One-Yr Countdown Concert

  Live arranging/production/performing for the Four Host Nations presentation by Producer/Percussionist Salvador Ferreras, Feb 2009            Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Vancouver BC.

​

The Spacious Firmament

  Commissioned by the BC Choral Federation. Performed at every biannual International Choral Kathaumixw opening and closing                      ceremonies by large massed choirs with orchestra, Powell River, Canada

​

Festival Fanfare

  Commissioned for the Opening of the 2004 Cultural Capital of Canada celebrations. A fanfare prepared for brass quintet, trio, and large        brass ensemble, 2004.

​

Peace

  Commissioned for the ceremony marking the 50th year since the bombing of Hiroshima. Stokes' music represented Canada in this                  ceremony of choirs that was broadcast around the world.

A Streetcar Named Desire 

2006 and 2009: Full-length ballet with live septet commissioned by Ballet BC.

  A collaboration with Artistic Director John Alleyne and librettist John Murrell. MORE ... Produced again by Ballet Kelowna in 2018​​​
