Canadian composer Tobin Stokes creates opera, concert music, music for theatre, and scores television and film.
His opera, Pauline, was a collaboration with Canadian author Margaret Atwood, premiering with City Opera Vancouver in 2014. His opera, Fallujah, was a collaboration with American/Iraqi playwright Heather Raffo. Fallujah premiered with Long Beach Opera and New York City Opera in 2016.
Tobin has composed music for dozens of films. For the score of The Wild Canadian Year five-part documentary series, he hired the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
Tobin's choral music is performed around the world, and his first three symphonies, one piano concerto, two cantatas, two additional operas, and many other works, have been commissioned and premiered in Canada. His orchestral music has been recorded in Moscow and Bratislava. He is a former composer in residence with the EU's Urban Youth Choir Festival, the International Choral Kathaumixw, the Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific, the Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy, and the Victoria Symphony (Canada).
His music opened and closed the XV Commonwealth Games and has been performed in private for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
